Bottega Veneta at Selfridges, London W1 – Engineering Seamless Verde Alpi Stone for Luxury Retail

Luxury retail projects often appear deceptively simple. Behind every clean line and seamless finish lies an extraordinary level of planning, engineering and craftsmanship.
Our latest installation for Bottega Veneta at Selfridges, London W1 is a perfect example.

A Brief That Demanded Precision
The client’s vision centred on creating a striking yet understated natural stone display, with every element appearing as though it had been carved from a single piece of stone.

The specification included:
* 40mm solid Verde Alpi tops, cut from block with no visible joints.
* A sculptural kidney-shaped pedestal base, manufactured as a single seamless piece.
* 30mm solid stone shelves, internally CNC-machined to reduce weight while accommodating integrated bar fixings and concealed LED lighting.
* A removable lightweight base panel providing discreet access while preserving the appearance of a completely solid stone construction.
While the finished installation appears effortless, delivering this level of precision required meticulous planning from the very beginning.

Starting at the Quarry
Every successful natural stone project begins with selecting the right material.
Rather than working from existing stock, we travelled to the Verde Alpi quarry to personally select a single block of stone. This ensured complete consistency of colour, veining and character throughout every component of the installation.

From this one block, we produced:
* Two 40mm solid slabs for the main display tops.
* One 30mm slab for the shelving.
* A smaller block from which the sculptural kidney-shaped pedestal was precision machined.

Selecting material from a single block guarantees that every component shares the same natural characteristics, creating a seamless visual flow across the finished installation.

Advanced Stone Engineering
One of the greatest technical challenges was meeting the site’s strict weight restrictions without compromising the appearance of solid stone.

Using our advanced 5-axis CNC machining technology, both the pedestal and shelving were extensively engineered from the reverse side. Material was strategically removed from hidden areas, significantly reducing weight while maintaining the strength, structural integrity and visual impact of solid natural stone.

This concealed engineering also allowed us to incorporate:
* Integrated bar fixings.
* Concealed LED lighting.
* Removable access panels for future maintenance.

The result is a sophisticated installation that appears entirely monolithic while discreetly incorporating the practical requirements expected within a modern luxury retail environment.

Managing a Demanding Programme
With stone selected at the quarry, time was always going to be critical.
Every stage had to be carefully coordinated, from stone selection and transport to the production facility, through CNC machining, finishing, quality inspection and final delivery.
Projects of this nature leave very little room for error, making close collaboration between our design, engineering and manufacturing teams essential throughout the process.

Traditional Craftsmanship Meets Modern Manufacturing.
Natural stone has been used in architecture for thousands of years, but projects like this demonstrate how modern engineering continues to expand its possibilities.
By combining carefully selected premium materials with advanced CNC machining and traditional finishing techniques, we can produce installations that retain the beauty and authenticity of solid natural stone while satisfying the demanding technical requirements of contemporary luxury retail environments.

The Finished Result
The completed installation celebrates everything that makes Verde Alpi such an exceptional material, its rich green tones, dramatic veining and timeless elegance, while showcasing the engineering expertise required to transform a simple design concept into reality.
The finished result is a seamless, sculptural installation that perfectly complements the understated luxury synonymous with Bottega Veneta, this project is a great example of our Retail Applications

We would like to thank our client for their continued trust and support.
